We invite you to come along and see the finalists pitch their projects at public pitch session on May 11th, 12:45pm at aquarium. Through its open pitching session, the fund creates a platform for exchange with professionals and the general audience in order to offer feedback on the filmmakers’ projects. A jury of industry professionals then selects the winner, which will be announced at the annual Lolly Award Ceremony on May 12th at 9:30pm. The winner of the XPOSED Queer Short Film Fund is awarded a cash prize of €1.000 and €2.000 worth of technical services, provided by our official partner 25p *cine support. For the first time this year, the fund also comes with a mentorship by film professional Kristian Peterson as well as Audio Post Production from our new partner Berliner Union Film Ateliers!

This year, the fund also comes with a mentorship: a film professional will be attached to the selected winner, offering 5 mentorship sessions. With two sessions allocated for script development, the filmmaker can further develop their project to production stage. One session will also be offered to help the filmmaking team in production, plus two further sessions when the project reaches the post production stage. Our mentor for the 5th Queer Short Film Fund is Kristian Petersen.

Kristian Petersen studied film and performance in Braunschweig (Germany), later working as sound recordist and cameraman for TV, film and music video productions. Since 2002 he holds teaching positions for film and visual anthropology at various German universities. He was amongst the first to work for the Porn Film Festival Berlin. Nowadays, he curates international film and music festivals and produces the conceptual, gender-binarities questioning film compilations “fucking different“

Previous winner films
This year we are excited to present two previous winners of the XPOSED Queer Short Film Fund at our festival: Prototypes from Doireann O’Malley and The Sea Runs Through My Veins from Zara Zandieh. Previous winner Pol Merchan’s film Pirate Boys premiered at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in 2018 and went on to screen at a large number of international festivals, including Oberhausen International Short Film Festival. Last year’s winner BEER! BEER! from Fan Popo is currently in post production.

Cooperation with other festivals
To further expand the network of funding for Queer Films, XPOSED has begun working together with two other festival initiatives. In October 2018, the festival partnered with the Sexual Diversity Program, Morelia, Mexico in order to bring Queer Feature Film scripts to the next stage of development with their program INICIA. In November 2019, XPOSED will be partnering with the Queer University in Beijing to support mentoring and developing Queer Short Films that go into production.
